Advantages of Self-Leveling Glaze
One of the advantages we now have in modern ceramics is the ability to work with liquid ceramic systems that allow layering of value and color with very minimal firing cycles.
Ivoclar has introduced a material called Ceram Art, and it has been a beautiful product to work with. The illustrations shown here were accomplished with just one firing applied onto the e.max surface after crystallization due to its low fusing temperature.
One of the features I appreciate most is the glaze they call Magic Glaze. It is self-leveling, which means that when you place intentional surface texture, the glaze reproduces it in a very subtle and natural way, rather than flattening the anatomy.
With only one firing, you can achieve excellent esthetic results while keeping the workflow efficient.
This is a very nice advancement for those of us who enjoy creating natural ceramic characterizations chairside.
I will be releasing videos soon demonstrating the workflow and techniques for using this material.
